Real stories of Progress

Walking boots and a 22 mile challenge to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society

In June 2019, an intrepid team of staff from Progress Housing Group and Progress Lifeline completed a 22 or 15 mile hike around Cumbria's beautiful Coniston Lake.

Following the success of last year's Ullswater challenge which raised more than £2,000 for the Time to Change and Papyrus Prevention of Young Suicide charities, 19 members of staff from Progress Housing Group, along with five supportive friends and family members, visited the Lake District again to raise money for this year's chosen charity - the Alzheimer's Society, and raised a huge £8,681.

Both routes closely followed the lake shore, which circuits Coniston Water. The 22 mile route also included 4,000 feet of ascent and is classed as a challenge walk by the long distance walkers association.

Many of our tenants, Progress Lifeline service users and staff live with, or care for, a loved-one with dementia.
