In August 2019, Progress Housing Group Resource Scheduler, Elaine, held a family fun-day to raise money for her best friend Katt's young son, Theo.
Theo was only three years old when he was diagnosed with A.L.L, a severe form of Leukaemia. As part of his treatment Theo had a Hickman Line inserted into his chest to administer the medication he needs. He became very self-conscious about showing his torso and it was a battle to get to the lines to administer his medication - resulting in a lot of stress and anxiety for both Theo and his mum.
Katt, Theo's mum, decided that she wanted to make special Pyjamas for each of the kids going through this aggressive and intrusive treatment. These pyjamas would have a pocket on the front to allow the lines to be accessed without the child having to remove their tops, and medication could be administered even whilst the child is sleeping - without disturbing them.
The family fun day which included fairground rides, stalls, dancing, games and a huge raffle with hundreds of prizes donated by local businesses and families, raised £155 and was matched by Progress Housing Group, making a total of £310.
The money was enough for Katt to realise her goal by designing and producing the pyjamas, making them a reality and helping other parents and children in a similar situation.
